Food, Nature, Art and a Sore Butt

On the weekends, the studio is closed, so first stop, Arnhem farmers markt. It was nice to go because this is something that Ted and I would normally do on the weekend. However, at certain vendors’ booths, you cannot touch the produce; you must tell them what you wish to purchase and they grab and bag it for you. Groceries are inexpensive at the markt; I bought a bunch of potatoes, endives, spinach, corn, apples, plums, pears and a small thing of blueberries and it totaled to 5 euros. Needless to say, I ate very well tonight.

After that, I hopped on a local bus and went to De Hoge Veluwe, the largest national park in the Netherlands. In the middle of the park is the amazing Kroller-Muller museum (thanks, Lauren for the tip!). In order to get to the museum, one must cycle through the park. Visitors are provided with free white bicycles located at the 3 entrances of the park;

I chose to bike the longest route being 10K. It is a beautiful national park. The picturesque landscape constantly changes, one moment you are in a pine forest, then birch forest, then fields of heather and then a desert! At times, it felt like I was cycling into a painting.

The art museum is fabulous; it features artwork from the likes of Van Gogh, Seurat, Mondriaan, Cezanne, Manet, Picasso, Leger, Rodin, etc. It is so different to see the paintings in person as opposed to my art history textbooks! Once I was finished with the museum, I went out to the sculpture gardens; it was so big, that I could not see all of the art outside. After all, I had to save a little energy for the 10K ride back. PS: my butt hurts right now.
