Ne becomes Be
Yesterday, I left Arnhem. Things were going really well until the morning of departure; I realized that I had lost the key to July’s bicycle! D’oh! I look everywhere in the apartment, but to no avail. July was really understanding about the whole thing though. Anyways, Rene, at PlaatsMaken took me to the train station and bid me nice farewell. Here are some photos of PlaatsMaken (i love the screen-printed furniture):
When I arrived in Antwerp, it was hot, sunny and kind of muggy. After I settled in my hotel room, I left for the Grote Markt. It was Liberation night: Belgium’s celebration of its liberation from World War I. They had live music, people dressed in period clothing, a beauty tent (for those wanting to look the look), swing dancing and a lot of beer, of course.
Today, I woke up and looked out the window to Theatreplein which is also the location of the Saturday exotischer markt. It is basically a huge farmer’s market with a focus on exotic spices and food from the Middle East. Next, I found the antique/flea market, lignwaadmarkt outside the Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekathedraal. After that, I was going down the fashion district: Nationalestraat, but instead found a local outdoor craft fair. There were mostly handmade items for children, but there were also jewelry, ceramics, and a milliner! I bought a handmade cloche for 35 euros not bad, eh?
