Sai Wah Tong

Sai Wah Tong, 2017, screen printed zine with letterpress printed poster, 9.5” x 6.25”

A zine created as part of my solo exhibition, After Gold Mountain, at the Worker Arts and Heritage Centre, Hamilton, Ontario. This zine details the early days of Chinese hand laundries in Vancouver’s Chinatown. Laundry workers endured incredibly long hours in deplorable conditions. At a certain point, Chinese laundry workers formed a union, Sai Wah Tong, to protect their rights, but it was short-lived; the union mysteriously disbanded.
