The Saucy Milliner

I have always been interested in the art of millinery. Yes, even long before Kate and Wills wedding. I admire how women used to take time and care to wear fashionable hats. Nowadays, we are all about the hairdo hence the demise of the hat. It was very difficult to locate a milliner in Vancouver, but just my luck I found the Saucy Milliner aka Kelly Dunlap. I love Kelly’s vintage-styled hats; they are beautifully hand-crafted with amazing materials: silk flowers, sinamay, beaver fur, and Swarvoski crystals, french veiling, etc. Kelly works in her charming atelier in Kitsilano, so when she offered to teach me how to create fascinators, I jumped at the chance. One day, I would like to incorporate millinery into my artwork; I don’t how yet, but here are a couple of attempts at some simple fascinators.
